Lesotho

Lesotho is a mountain kingdom landlocked on all sides by South Africa. It was at Thaba-Bosiu, the 'Mountain of the Night', that King Moshoeshoe The Great started his Kingdom. He first settled here, not far from today's Maseru, in 1824 after he fled from Shaka Zulu. Malealea lies 1,800 metres above sea level and is the starting point for the typical trekking tours on Lesotho mountain ponies. Sani Pass is a spectacular steep and scenic road between Lesotho and South Africa is known as the 'Gateway to Lesotho'. Sani Top, the highest point of the pass, features a Basuto Cultural Village, the highest pub in Southern Africa and some spectacular views.
