South Africa is a country rich in minerals, with abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery. It is also a country having three capitals - Pretoria the Administrative, Cape Town the Legislative, and Bloemfontein the Judicial. Having by far the most developed and sophisticated economy on the continent, South Africa is essential to many of the neighbouring countries as an avenue for exports, and a provider of electricity and high tech products. A good network of roads and an abundance of high quality camp sites (as well as beautiful scenery) make travelling in and around South Africa an easy and very rewarding experience.
Cape Town is South Africa's No. 1 tourist destination. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with plenty of sights and outdoor activities including Table Mountain, Victoria & Albert (V&A) Waterfront, Robben Island, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Townships, the Cape Point and Peninsula and surrounding Winelands.
Cape Town is also an idea place to start or finish you excursion to/from the Garden Route. Stretching between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, this most scenic stretch of coastline is named after its wealth of forests. Johannesburg is still referred to as the gold capital of the world and is where we start our safari to Kruger National Park, South Africa's premier park. We travel there via Mpumalanga - the 'land of the rising sun', also nicknamed the Panorama Region for its many natural sights. These include Pilgrim's Rest, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, God's Window and the Three Rondavels - famous rock formation resembling three local huts.
From Durban, the Drakensberg Mountains (in Afrikaans means 'dragon mountain' whereas the Zulu call it uKhahlamba, meaning 'barrier of spears') are easily accessible as is Hluhluwe and Imfolozi Game Reserves, the oldest and most prominent game parks in the country and a haven for black and white rhinos.
