DAYS 1 - 7, Nairobi, Eldoret, Jinja

From Nairobi, we cross Kenya’s Great Rift Valley with it’s fantastic views to Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is home to rhino, leopard, warthog and abundant birdlife, particularly flamingos, which feed in great numbers in the shallows of the lake. From Nakuru we head north to Uganda. From our base near the source of the Nile at Jinja there is the opportunity to white water raft or bungy jump over Africa’s longest and most famous river. Alternatively join in helping to build and improve local schools on our Softpower volunteer project. We leave Jinja, and head to Kampala for two nights in the capital.

DAYS 8 - 14, Gorilla Trek, Kampala, Nairobi

**** Gorilla Trek Permit is paid at the time of booking and is included in the price displayed on this page **** We travel south, cross the equator and spend time relaxing on the banks of Lake Bunyonyi before entering the lush forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This region is home to roughly half of the world’s remaining 700 mountain gorillas. After a guided trek through hilly jungle we sit in the company of a family of gorillas in their natural habitat. A most memorable experience! We return to Kampala and cross the Rift Valley to the bright lights of Nairobi. Celebrate your gorilla safari with a night on the town at one of Nairobi’s top class restaurants.

DAYS 15 - 22, Masai Mara, Serengeti Plains

From Nairobi we travel to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya’s most famous reserve, with rolling grasslands and exciting wildlife experiences. The annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, between July and October each year, is a particularly impressive sight. From the ‘Mara’ we cross the border into Tanzania, via Nairobi, to busy safari capital Arusha, exploring the vibrant markets and meeting the friendly inhabitants of local Meserani Snake Park! We then jump aboard 4x4 vehicles and drive west via Olduvai Gorge to Tanzania’s world famous Serengeti National Park. We game view by day and camp out under the stars where wildlife roams by night. From the open plains of the Serengeti we reach the natural, high-walled amphitheatre of the Ngorongoro Crater. The scenery here is spectacular and in this World Heritage Site, the wildlife populations are some of the most prolific in all of Africa.

DAYS 23 - 28, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar

Rejoining our truck, we travel to the balmy Indian Ocean coast and Tanzania’s main port, Dar es Salaam, and catch a ferry to Zanzibar – the ‘Spice Island.’ Kick back and soak up the East African vibe on these final days of the tour. Historically, Zanzibar was one of the most important cities on the East African coast, a centre for spice and the slave trade and base for 19th century explorers Livingstone, Speke, Burton and others. Relax on idyllic palm-fringed beaches and snorkel or dive its clear waters. Explore Stone Town’s winding alleys and discover the bazaars, stalls, shops, mosques, palaces, courtyards and plazas of the old town. Perhaps even take a spice tour! We enjoy all this island offers before our return to the mainland where the tour ends.
