No visit to South Africa is complete without seeing the big game of Kruger. Spot the Big 5 and explore the highlights of this region.
Day 1, Blyde River Canyon, 3 Rondavels, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Cultural village
Leaving Johannesburg behind we enter the land of the rising sun, Mpumalanga and onwards to Kruger National Park, South Africa's largest and premier National Park. We arrive around lunchtime to set up camp in one of the designated rest camp areas before going on our first game drive in the late afternoon. With cameras and binoculars in hand we excitedly explore as much as we can before the African sun starts to set.
Day 2, Kruger National Park
An early start is required to explore the many different habitats and residents of this park. The Kruger is mostly flat savannah and bushveld with pockets of mopane forest. Several rivers flow though the park and game is plentiful. All of the big 5 are found here as well as cheetah, wild dog, spotted and brown hyena and almost all of South Africa's antelope species from the common impala to the rare sable and roan. Kruger's bird life is immense also with ostrich, marabou storks, and crowned cranes all vying for attention. Raptors such as martial, black and fish eagles are also regular sights. We enjoy morning and afternoon game drives interrupted only by the heat of the midday sun when we retire to our camp. This evening you have the chance to take an optional night drive(subject to availablity) to spot more animals including leopard, aardvark, aardwolf, genet and civet.
Day 3 Kruger National Park, Johannesburg
Our last chance this morning to spot any animals that have evaded us over the past two days before we make our way back to Johannesburg. With emails swapped for photographic trading we say goodbye to our guide and each other.
