The
Garden Route is one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the world. Stunning scenery,
exciting optional activities, and wildlife encounters.
Day 1, Wild Coast, East London
Departing Durban early in the morning we venture along the South Coast before crossing into the Wild Coast passing through small villages where the mud huts of the Xhosa people evoke classical images of timeless Africa. We overnight just north of East London.
Day 2, Addo Elephant National Park
After a morning of travelling through the original frontier lands of the Eastern Cape we visit Addo Elephant National Park where you will encounter these gentle giants in their natural habitat and possibly spot recently introduced lion. We overnight in Port Elizabeth in the winter or Addo in the summer.
Day 3, Tsitsikamma National Park
From Port Elizabeth, our first visit of the day is the famous surf spot, Jeffreys Bay. We then stop at the Bloukrans Bridge, where you will have the opportunity (if you dare!) for a spectacular 216m bungy jump. Our day ends in Tsitsikamma National Park where we camp between the pounding surf on one side and the forested slopes on the other.
Day 4 - 5, Wilderness
The next couple of days are spent visiting the famed Garden Route, including Storms River, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna. We also climb the Outeniqua Pass into the Little Karoo, to visit a Cheetah and Crocodile farm, the intriguing Cango Caves, and take a ride on an ostrich at an ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn. We overnight in the pretty forests around Wilderness.
Day 6 - 7, Cape Winelands, Cape Town
After a brief stop at Mossel Bay for a last swim in the Indian Ocean, we head to the famous winelands of the Cape region, where we stop at one of the estates to sample some of the fine local wines and port. We bypass the city of Cape Town and stop for lunch overlooking the pounding Atlantic Ocean at the Cape of Good Hope in the scenic Cape Point Nature Reserve. We finally reach Cape Town where you will be welcomed with the unforgettable sight of the majestic Table Mountain.
