An affordable 'hands on' exploratory tour into one of the last remaining true wilderness areas in the world - the Okavango Delta.
Day 1, Maun, Botswana
Our guide is there to meet you upon arrival at Maun International Airport to transfer you to your accommodation situated a short drive outside of the township. Maun is renowned as the gateway to the world famous Okavango Delta, a huge inland system of water courses, lagoons and islands. Bordered by the Kalahari Desert the 'delta' acts as an oasis to wildlife and people alike. We are briefed on what to expect on our excursion departing the following day, including how to use camping and cooking equipment, prepare meals (included) and the roles of the local guides and polers.
Day 2, Okavango Delta
We depart early to be transferred by safari vehicle to meet our mokoros (dug out canoes). After transferring our equipment and food onto the canoes we sit back, relax and take in the awesome beauty and tranquillity this haven offers. Our polers act as our African gondoliers as we negotiate our way through reed filled canals, meandering our way to our island home for the next two nights. The Okavango Delta encompasses many species of animals including elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, waterbuck to name but a few. With luck we will get to encounter some of these animals in their water world.
Day 3, Okavango Delta
This morning we set off on a game walk to trek for animals that may have ventured close to our campsite in the night. The excitement of game walks is immense and anticipation builds with every step. In addition to animal trekking our guide will talk to you informatively about the flora and fauna found on our walk. It's back to our campsite for lunch with a possible short mokoro venture in the late afternoon.
Day 4, Okavango Delta, Maun
It's our final morning in the delta and we reluctantly pack up our camp and head out on our final mokoro trip to rendezvous with our vehicle for our drive back to Maun. It's our last chance to spot any animals we have yet to see on our safari before saying goodbyes to our poler friends. We arrive back in Maun in time for lunch and have the rest of the day to relax, swim in the pool and enjoy a few beers and reminisce about our adventures of the past few days.
Day 5, Transfer to Maun Airport
We spend a last morning in Maun before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
