An extensive safari for the wildlife enthusiast
exploring Kenya’s best parks, in the shadow of Africa’s
tallest mountains - Mt Kenya
and Kilimanjaro. Day
1, Masai Mara
From Nairobi, head off into the Kenyan wilderness towards the world
famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. After setting up camp, enjoy your
first night under the enormous African sky listening to the sounds
of the wild.
Day
3, Masai Mara
Spend a full day exploring this vast park known for its huge stocks
of animals including the Big 5 - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant
and buffalo as well as many other impressive animals and fantastic
birdlife. This is mother nature at her best, and the Mara offers
prime game viewing and great photography.
Day
3, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru
From the Mara head to Lake Nakuru National Park for more game viewing
around the lake shore. The soda lake is famous for its flocks of
flamingos that feed on the algae found in the waters, and the park
is an important sanctuary for both black and white rhino. It’s
also rather well-off for leopard that are often, and unusually,
spotted during daylight hours in the acacia forest at the entrance
to the park. We overnight in the nearby town of Nakuru.
Day
4 - 6, Mt. Kenya, Samburu Game Reserve
Travel north to the arid lowlands around the foothills of Mt. Kenya,
at 5,199m, the highest mountain in Kenya, and the second highest
in Africa after Kilimanjaro in neighbouring Tanzania. We arrive
at our camp near the Samburu National Park, on the fringes of the
Northern Frontier District, considered to be one of the more remote
Kenyan parks. The scenery here bears a striking difference from
the fertile farmland in the south of Kenya, but the desolate and
sandy landscape is the preferred habitat for some mammals well-adapted
to the harsh environment. Among these are Grevy's zebra, reticulated
giraffe, and the gerenuk, an unusual antelope that spends much of
its time on its hind legs reaching up to eat in the bushes.
Day
7 - 8, Amboseli National Park
Travel south again via Nairobi and spend two nights in the scenic
Amboseli National Park and capture the essence of Africa with its
panoramic views of wildlife roaming in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro
only 25km from the park in Tanzania. Amboseli’s landscape
is of dry and dusty open plains trampled by hundreds of animals
but it is well-watered thanks to the melting snow on the top of
Kili that feeds the springs in the park.
Day
9, Amboseli, Nairobi
After a morning game drive we head back
to the big city of Nairobi where our magical safari ends.
