The
highlights along South Africa's coastline from the Garden Route
to the Wild Coast. High mountains, lush forests, and sun drenched beaches.
Day 1, De Hoop Nature Reserve
Departing Cape Town, follow the coastline to Hermanus, famous for the best land-based whale watching (from June to November) in Africa. Visit the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet, before bird watching in the unique De Hoop Nature Reserve where we overnight.
Day 2, Little Karoo, Oudtshoorn
Crossing the Outeniqua Mountains on the famous scenic Route 62, we enter the Little Karoo and explore the Cango Caves and an ostrich farm where there is a chance to ride the largest of all birds. From here we drive to Knysna where we overnight in log cabins in the heart of the pretty Knysna Forest.
Day 3 - 4, Knysna
We spend a couple of days exploring the Garden Route around Knysna including an early morning boat cruise (weather permitting) on the Knysna Lagoon and the open sea in search of whales, dolphins and sharks. A spot of shopping and fine dining at Knysna’s waterfront. and a visit to the Tsitsikamma National Park, where you can take a short hike along the rugged coast to Storms River. Finally there is the mother of all bungy jumps at Bloukrans Bridge, at 216m it’s the highest in the world - dare you!
Day 5 - 6, Port Elizabeth, Zuurburg
From Knysna, drive to the end of the Garden Route at Port Elizabeth where we spend time enjoying the beaches and waterfront before moving inland for the night in the Zuurberg Mountains overlooking Addo Elephant National Park. The following morning, take a game walk in the Zuurbuurg section of Addo, followed by an afternoon game drive in the elephant section renowned for its herds of elephant, rhino, buffalo and newly introduced lion.
Day 7 - 8, Wild Coast
From Addo, spend a couple of nights on the spectacular Wild Coast with its swathes of empty and remote beaches, rugged coastline, and traditional Xhosa villages. Here you can explore the tidal pools, play in the surf, go on long and lonely beach walks or simply relax in the sun. Our route also takes us past Nelson Mandela’s birthplace and holiday house, which he built to replicate his former prison house.
Day 9, Durban, Dolphin Coast
From the Wild Coast, enter KwaZulu-Natal and reach South Africa's holiday capital of Durban. Spend the last night at Durban's famous dolphin coast beach and enjoy a last dinner together as a group.
Day 10, Durban
The tour ends in the morning, though you may book extra nights locally if you want more time to explore Durban. Transfers back to Cape Town or to Johannesburg can also be arranged locally.
