Departing Durban we travel north into Zululand to Lake St. Lucia. Our first highlight is a boat cruise on one of the world’s largest wetland ecosystem which is a World Heritage Site. Look out for the many hippo and crocodile that inhabit the waters of the lake. This afternoon walk through a sand forest, wetlands and enjoy sundowners at the end of an action packed day.

Day 2, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi

We game drive through the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s oldest and most prolific parks, home to the Big 5 and one third of the world’s rhino population.

Day 3, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Durban
After an early morning and afternoon game drive on the look out for lion and cheetah we travel back to Durban and overnight in a lively hostel.

Day 4, Valley of a Thousand Hills
From Durban, it’s a short drive to the Zulu stronghold of the Valley of a Thousand Hills. At a Zulu Village, you are met by a community guide who explains traditional Zulu customs and beliefs, and the night is spent in traditional village huts with spectacular views of the valley.

Day 5, Drakensberg Mountains
We head into the awe-inspiring Drakensberg Mountains, where we stop at the Khotso farm for either a horse ride or a try at river tubing, before arriving at our picturesque accommodation.

Day 6, Drakensberg Mountains
Spend the day hiking in the beautiful mountains, where valleys hide waterfalls and bushman rock paintings, and the crystal clear rivers offer opportunities to swim.

Day 7, Lesotho, Durban
Head to Sani Pass, a tortuous and highly scenic road only accessible by 4x4 up to the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, and at the top visit a traditional Basotho Village and the highest pub in Africa. From the mountains, we return to Durban in the evening.
