the thrill of big game safaris in Kruger, with beautiful Zululand, and the idyllic and relaxing beaches of tropical Mozambique.
DAY 1 - 2, Zululand, Mkuzi Game Reserve
From Johannesburg head for the remote and scenic reserves of Zululand in northern KwaZulu Natal. We explore Mkuzi Game Reserve in search of the endangered black rhino and many other animals, and we wait at a hide overlooking one of the waterholes to watch the wildlife come down to drink. We take an informative guided walk through a local village for an authentic Zulu cultural experience.
DAY 3 - 5, Kosi Bay
Kosi Bay Nature Reserve covers an area of sweeping beaches, great fertile estuaries, mangrove forests and lakes which we explore by boat and on foot. We also visit the Kosi Bay river mouth and snorkel in its crystal clear waters and watch the local fisherman gather their nets in the estuary. Between the months of January and November it may be possible to glimpse giant leatherback turtles that come on to these beaches to lay their eggs.
DAY 6, Swaziland, Hlane Game Reserve
In the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland we stay in the Hlane Game Reserve which is owned by the King and best explored on game walks in search of elephant, rhino and the fascinating bird life.
DAY 7 - 11, Maputo, Inhambane
Goodbye Swaziland, hello Mozambique! The first stop on our journey through this intriguing country is the vibrant capital of Maputo before heading to the tropical beaches of Praia de Barra, via Inhambane, where you can enjoy the warm Indian Ocean on a number of water activities or by dhow, a traditional white-sailed boat (own expense). We stay beneath cashew nut trees and try a spot of snorkelling along the pristine reefs, before heading back to South Africa.
DAY 12 - 14, Kruger National Park, Johannesburg
It’s big game safari time in the famous Kruger National Park in pursuit of the 'Big Five'. On the final day of the tour, drive through scenic Mpumalanga back to Johannesburg.
