Starting
from Windhoek, discover giant sand dunes, seaside fun, eerie Atlantic
coastline, the intriguing Himba people, and the vast and spectacular
Namib-Naukluft National Park, on a comprehensive 14 day overland
tour of Namibia’s highlights.
Day
1, Windhoek
After your arrival in Windhoek, there is a pre departure meeting
on Day 1 of the tour at your joining hotel at 18.30.
Day
2 - 3, Namib-Naukluft National Park
Head inland to the scenically spectacular Namib-Naukluft National
Park, the oldest desert in the world with the highest sand dunes
on earth, some reaching over 300m. Watch the sun sink over the incredible
sea of sand with their endlessly changing colours and contrasting
shadows, and climb a giant dune at Sossusvlei.
Day
4 - 5, Swakopmund
Swakopmund is Namibia's premier holiday resort, nestling between
the Namib Desert and the ocean. Here, you can explore the town and
enjoy one of the many good restaurants and bars, and take one of
the exciting optional activities such as sand boarding or quad biking
in the surrounding dunes or a thrilling sky dive over the town.
Day
6, Skeleton Coast, Damaraland
Today we head up the barren Skeleton Coast to the Cape Cross Seal
Colony, home to some 80,000 seals, and further inland reach Damaraland
and if we are really lucky may encounter a desert elephant. We visit
the ancient site of Twyfelfontein to see the bushman paintings and
rock engravings carved into the sandstone.
Day
7 – 9, Kaokoland
We head further north to the remote and eerily beautiful Kaokoveld,
a region that is one of the last great wilderness areas of Africa.
We travel as far north as Opuwo where we will have the opportunity
to interact with the Himba people and catch a glimpse of their traditional
nomadic lifestyle.
Day
10, Cheetah Sanctuary
Our next stop is a cheetah sanctuary, where we learn more about
these animals and the circumstances threatening their survival.
We hope to watch them feed and possibly even come into contact with
them.
Day
11 – 12, Etosha National Park
Next is Etosha National Park and we explore the park’s desert
and semi arid landscape on the hunt for the many species of game.
We camp for two nights close to floodlit waterholes, renowned for
their visiting populations of rhino and elephant that make for exciting
night time game viewing.
Day
13, Waterburg Plateau
The Waterberg Plateau is a sandstone plateau rising high above the
surrounding plains, and a great place for a bush walk in search
of the prolific bird life and it’s also a sanctuary for rare
species including sable antelope and white rhino.
Day
14, Windhoek
The tour ends back in Windhoek.
