This
tour takes in two of the highlights of Southern Africa – Cape
Town and Victoria Falls. In between are Botswana’s wilderness
areas and wide open spaces that cry out for exploration –
the Kalahari Desert, the Okavango Delta, and Chobe National Park.
Day
1 - 2, Cape Town
Explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world and enjoy
all that Cape Town has to offer. You may choose to visit the Cape
of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape Point and the penguin colony at
Boulder’s Beach, and a visit to the top of Table Mountain
on the cable car is a Cape Town must do.
Day
3 – 5, Cederberg, Augrabies National Park
From Cape Town we head north via the beautiful Cederberg Mountains
to the Augrabies Falls National Park. We go on the hunt for black
rhino, eland, gemsbok and klipspringer antelope on a game drive,
and view the spectacular Augrabies Falls, a thunderous 60m drop
of white water as the mighty Gariep (Orange) River plunges over
a granite gorge.
Day
6 - 8, Botswana, Mabuasehube Game Reserve
Mabuasehube Game reserve is part of one of the largest transfrontier
conservation areas in Africa, covering a mammoth 57 000 sq km of
the Kalahari Desert. We camp in the wild for three nights and explore
on game drives in search of the large Kalahari lion that roam this
area.
Day 9 - 10, Maun
Exiting the remote southern Kalahari, we travel north through remote
san settlements of the southern Kalagadi area, home to the largest
concentration of San people in all Botswana. We camp overnight for
the next two nights at a community managed campsite and experience
San culture and their intriguing way of life.
Day 11 - 15, Okavango Delta, Moremi Game
Reserve
Explore the pristine wilderness of the Okavango Delta with its reed
filled lagoons and tranquil waterways by foot and boat, and with
luck may spot some of the delta’s unusual wildlife and prolific
birdlife. The Okavango River begins life in Angola, and when it
reaches Botswana divides repeatedly into an intricate floodplain
of thousands of channels that spread to form an inland delta –
the only one of its kind in the world. Moremi is a spectacular wildlife
sanctuary within the delta, and as it has no fences, allows unobstructed
seasonal movement of game, and is a paradise for birds, hooved animals
and predators alike.
Day 16 - 17, Chobe National Park
From Moremi we take the back roads through the Savute Channel into
Chobe National Park, and explore the Savute marsh, famous for its
large prides of lion and abundant hyena. We reach the Chobe River
where there is the opportunity to go on a river cruise to view the
animals coming down for an evening drink.
Day
18 – 20, Livingstone
From Chobe we cross into Zambia and end the tour in Livingstone
next to the thunderous Victoria Falls. Here you can choose from
a number of adventure activities based around the falls and the
Bakota Gorge, and to see the mighty spectacle of the Victoria Falls
from the many strategic pathways and look-out points is the perfect
end to our safari.
