Enjoy
simmering landscapes, giant sand dunes, seaside fun, wildlife watching,
and vast wilderness areas on this comprehensive tour of Namibia
and Botswana.
Day
1, Botswana, Ghanzi
We begin our journey early in Windhoek and head east and cross the
border into Botswana. Our camp for the evening is close to the town
of Ghanzi and we spend the first night enjoying dinner around the
camp fire under an enormous African sky.
Day 2 – 5, Okavango Delta
Explore the pristine wilderness of the Okavango Delta with its reed
filled lagoons and tranquil waterways by foot and canoe, and with
luck may spot some of the delta’s unusual wildlife and prolific
birdlife. The Okavango River begins life in Angola, and when it
reaches Botswana divides repeatedly into an intricate floodplain
of thousands of channels that spread to form an inland delta –
the only one of its kind in the world.
Day 6, Rundu, Caprivi Strip
We head north and cross back into Namibia into the Caprivi Strip,
where we visit the Mahango Game Reserve, a stunning little park
on the edge of the Okavango River, where you might spot roan or
sable antelope. Our camp is also on the river, and in the evening
you may perhaps enjoy some traditional singing and dancing from
the region.
Day 7 - 9, Etosha National Park
Spend two nights in Etosha National Park, which we explore on game
drives and camp close to floodlit waterholes, renowned for their
visiting populations of rhino and elephant that make for exciting
night time game viewing if you can stay up late.
Day 10, Damaraland
We head south through Damaraland, home to the elusive desert elephant,
which we may spot along the dry riverbeds and granite outcrops of
this stark but spectacular scenic region. On the Skeleton Coast
along the harsh Atlantic Ocean, we visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony
that is home to some 80,000 seals.
Day 11, Swakopmund
Swakopmund is Namibia's premier holiday resort, nestling between
the Namib Desert and the ocean. Explore the town, enjoy one of the
many good restaurants and bars, or indulge in one of the German
coffee and cake shops Swakop is famous for.
Day 12 - 13, Namib-Naukluft National Park,
Sesriem
From Swakopmund we head south to the scenically spectacular Namib-Naukluft
National Park, the oldest desert in the world with the highest sand
dunes on earth, some reaching over 300m. In the evening we head
out to a sand dune to watch the sun sink over the incredible sea
of sand with their endlessly changing colours and contrasting shadows,
and the following morning we are up at dawn to watch the sun rise
and climb a giant dune at Sossusvlei.
Day 14, Windhoek
On our final morning, we leave Sesriem and head back to Windhoek
where our eventful tour ends.
