Combine
Namibian cultures with simmering landscapes, giant sand dunes, seaside
fun and wildlife watching in Etosha National Park.
Day
1 - 2, Sesriem, Namib-Naukluft Park
The scenically spectacular Namib-Naukluft National Park is the oldest
desert in the world with the highest sand dunes on earth, some reaching
over 300m. Spend two nights here to witness the incredible sea of
sand with their endlessly changing colours and contrasting shadows.
Day 3, Swakopmund
Swakopmund is Namibia's premier holiday resort, nestling between
the Namib Desert and the ocean. Explore the town, enjoy one of the
many good restaurants and bars, or choose one of the exciting optional
activities such as quad biking in the dunes.
Day 4 - 5 , Damaraland
Head north via the Skeleton Coast along the harsh Atlantic Ocean,
and visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony that is home to some 80,000
seals. Further inland, Damaraland is home to the elusive desert
elephant, which we may spot along the dry riverbeds and granite
outcrops of this stark but spectacular scenic region.
Day 6 – 9, Kaokoland
Even further north towards the border with Angola, we explore the
desolate and beautiful Kaokoland and stop at the various local villages
to meet the striking Himba people. For two nights we stay at a lodge
on the lush and green Kunene River, and for one night we stay in
a kraal or village with a family to experience day to day life,
and also visit a village school.
Day 10 - 12, Etosha National Park
Spend three nights camping in Etosha National Park, a vast reserve
of over 20,000 sq km surrounding a central salt ‘pan’
that is seasonally full of water, and home to some 114 mammal and
340 bird species. We camp close to floodlit waterholes that make
for exciting night time game viewing if you can stay up late.
Day 13, Windhoek
On our final morning, we leave Etosha and head back to Windhoek
where our insightful tour ends.
