Snorkel
or scuba dive the pristine reefs of the Red Sea and discover the
temples and tombs of ancient Egypt by felucca on the River Nile.
Day
1 - 2, Cairo, overnight train to Aswan
This tour begins on your arrival at the hotel in Cairo and the next
day we explore the pyramids and Sphinx at Giza. The Giza pyramids
are Khufu, Khafre and Mankaure and were believed to be built 4600
years ago, and the sight of these majestic structures rising out
of the desert is a breathtaking spectacle. Close by the mysterious
sphinx stands guard, as it has done for thousands of years. We also
visit the Egyptian Museum most famous for its golden artefacts discovered
in the tomb of Tutankhamen and the mysterious Mummy Room. In the
evening of Day 2, join the overnight train to Aswan.
Day
3 – 7, Aswan, felucca cruise
In Aswan, you have the best part of two days to explore. You may
choose to visit the serene Philae Temple, the Aswan High Dam with
its views over Lake Nasser, take a gentle felucca (traditional Nile
sailing boat) trip around Elephantine Island and Kitchener Island,
or an excursion to Abu Simbel to see the incredible statues of Ramses
II. In the afternoon of day 5, we hop on our felucca for our wonderfully
relaxing and peaceful sail along the river and spend two nights
sleeping out on deck. Along the way visit the dramatic temple of
Komombo that lies in a splendid riverside setting.
Day
8 - 9, Luxor
After breakfast on board the felucca, we visit the Temple Of Edfu,
a well preserved complex dedicated to the God of Horus, before being
transferred to Luxor. We spend two full days exploring and learning
the mysteries of Ancient Egypt at the enormous Karnak Temple and
cross the river to the West Bank of Luxor, and tour the Valley of
the Kings and Queens.
Day
10 - 12, Hurghada
From Luxor, we drive across the Egyptian desert to the coast and
reach the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, where we spend three nights
next to the beach and warm ocean to enjoy the number of optional
activities or simply unwind under the clear blue skies.
Day
13 - 15, Cairo
We cross the desert again en route back to Cairo via the Gulf of
Suez, and have another free day to enjoy more of Cairo’s highlights.
Perhaps you’ll explore the mix of the ancient and modern in
the atmospheric Khan al Khalili Bazaar, a maze of narrow lanes selling
just about anything where trade has been conducted for thousands
of years, or visit the imposing Citadel for great views of the chaotic
city. The tour ends on the morning of Day 15.
