From
the kings of the animal world in Kruger, to the ancient Kingdoms
of Swaziland and Zululand – a short safari discovering the
highlights between Johannesburg and Durban.
Day
1, Mpumalanga
From Johannesburg we travel east to Mpumalanga and the Panorama
region, and visit the historic towns of Witbank, Dullstroom and
Lydenburg, and travel over the Long Tom Pass to the small town of
Sabie surrounded by pine forests. We visit the Lone Creek waterfalls
before arriving at our elegant hotel where we overnight.
Day
2 – 3, Kruger Park region
We visit the tumbling waterfalls and rock formations of the Bourke’s
Luck Potholes and the spectacular viewpoints at the Blyde River
Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world. At the famous old
gold mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest, there is the opportunity
to visit the various museums, before arriving at our hotel near
Kruger National Park. From here with cameras and binoculars at the
ready, explore the untamed wilderness on game drives, or a walking
safari or night drive with the park rangers.
Day
4, Maputuland
We cross into the soaring highlands of the Kingdom of Swaziland,
a country with a colourful history and a proud people, and stop
at the Mbabane market to shop for handicrafts, before continuing
into Maputuland where we overnight in a game lodge.
Day
5, Durban
In the morning you can take the optional activity of a boat cruise
on Lake St Lucia in the Greater St Lucia Wetlands National Park,
World Heritage Site for outstanding natural beauty, and an important
coastal eco system for the protections of the many hippo, crocodile
and pelicans and flamingos. Travelling south we reach Durban, South
Africa’s sunshine and surf capital, where the tour ends.
