Discover
the thrilling game parks of Botswana and Namibia, enjoy cultural
meetings with southern Africa’s Himba and Bushmen people,
relax in the tranquil Okavango Delta, and experience the majesty
of Zambia’s Victoria Falls, on a comprehensive lodge tour.
Day
1, Windhoek
After your arrival at Windhoek International Airport, you are met
and transferred to your luxury lodge only 5 min from downtown Windhoek.
Day
2, Namib-Naukluft National Park
Today we head to the scenically spectacular Namib-Naukluft National
Park, the oldest desert in the world with the highest sand dunes
on earth, some reaching over 300m. In the evening we head out to
a sand dune to watch the sun sink over the incredible sea of sand
with their endlessly changing colours and contrasting shadows, and
climb a giant dune at Sossusvlei.
Day
3, Swakopmund
We drive through the desert to the Atlantic coast, and reach the
German colonial town of Swakopmund, where the afternoon is yours
to try one of the exciting adventure options from quad biking and
sand boarding in the nearby dunes, to sky diving or deep sea fishing.
Day
4 - 5, Damaraland
We drive north to the scenic Damaraland region and spend two nights
deep in the desert. We visit Twyfelfontein, where a unique collection
of ancient bushman art exists amongst the spectacular rocky outcrops
and giant boulders. We will also be on the look out for the desert
elephant and spend some time relaxing at the swimming pool at our
lodge.
Day
6 - 7, Kaokoland
We continue north to the remote and wild Kaokoland region, home
to the Himba people, and on a village visit, learn more about the
lives of these proud, semi-nomadic people.
Day
8, Damaraland
En route back through Damaraland, we spend a night in an exquisite
lodge where there is time to take a hike through the surrounding
bush, swim in the pool or sip cocktails at the bar.
Day
9 - 10, Etosha National Park
We head to Etosha National Park, a vast reserve of over 20,000 sq
km surrounding a central salt ‘pan’ that is seasonally
full of water and enclosing some 114 mammal and 340 bird species.
Our accommodation is close to floodlit waterholes that make for
exciting night time game viewing if you can stay up late.
Day 11 - 12, Bushmenland
From Etosha, we venture into remote Bushmenland and visit the San
bushmen in their natural environment. We take an 8-hour guided tour
to the Ju’/hoan bushmen community and are shown the activities
of the village, such as food being cooked, the beadwork, bows and
arrows being made, and poison being prepared.
Day
13 - 14, Caprivi Strip
Leaving the bushmen behind, we head along the Caprivi Strip to Rundu
and on to our lodge on the banks of the Kavango River overlooking
Angola. Here we enjoy a sunset cruise on the river in search of
hippo and crocodile and the vibrant birdlife.
Day
15 – 16, Okavango Delta
Botswana’s Okavango Delta is an intricate floodplain of thousands
of channels that spread out into a broad flat inland delta –
the only one of its kind in the world. We explore the channels and
islands on foot and in mokoro (dugout canoe) in search of hippo,
crocodile and the abundant bird life amongst the giant lily pads
and tall swaying grasses.
Day
17 – 19, Moremi Game Reserve
We get up early for our scenic flight from the panhandle of the
Okavango down to Maun on the southern tip of the Delta. From Maun,
we head to Moremi, one of Botswana’s best and remotest game
reserves. For the next three days we safari by 4x4 and motor boat
watching the wildlife on the spectacular plains and marshes and
in the forests of tall mopane trees.
Day
20, Chobe National Park
Continuing north through the Savuti Channel, we arrive at the Chobe
National Park, where we might spot crocodile and hippo in the Chobe
River. Chobe is known for its huge population of elephant and if
we are lucky we will see a family of elephant come down to the river
for an early evening drink or even a bath.
Day
21 – 22, Livingstone, Victoria Falls
After a short ferry crossing, today we travel north to Zambia and
reach Livingstone just up stream from ‘Mosi oa Tunya’
or ‘the smoke that thunders’ the local name for the
Victoria Falls. We spend two nights here in what is undoubtedly
Africa’s adrenalin capital, and there is a choice of activities.
