A
short safari for the wildlife enthusiast exploring Kenya’s
Amboseli and Tsavo West national parks, in the shadow of Africa’s
tallest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro.
Day
1, Amboseli National Park
From Nairobi, we drive to Amboseli National Park. This is the park
that is probably most famous for its photographs of elephant with
snow-capped Kilimanjaro in the background - a picture that above
all says, ‘come to Africa’.
Day
2, Amboseli National Park
We explore on early morning and afternoon game drives hopping to
spot the diverse range of wildlife. This is one of the best places
in Africa to watch elephant, reputedly with the biggest tusks in
Africa, cats include lion, leopard and cheetah, and there’s
an abundance of plains game meandering on the grassy plains. Amboseli’s
landscape is of dry and dusty open plains trampled by hundreds of
animals but it is well-watered thanks to the melting snow on the
top of Kili that feeds the springs in the park.
Day
3 - 4, Tsavo East National Park
Next we head to Tsavo East where there is some excellent scenery
of vast rolling plains and scrubby bush dotted with baobab trees.
The wildlife includes all the Big 5 plus zebra, giraffe, cheetah,
various species of antelope and over 500 species of birds. Tsavo
is particularly known for its huge herds of elephant.
Day
5, Tsavo West National Park
After breakfast we enter Tsavo West and continue game driving. We
visit the Chyulu Hills and Mzima Springs which are a favourite haunt
of both hippo and crocodile, which can be seen from an unique underwater
observation chamber.
Day
6, Mombasa
After an early morning game drive out of the park, we leave Tsavo
and continue to Mombasa where our exciting safari ends in the late
afternoon. Mombasa is a delightful Indian Ocean resort and there
is much to do and see there. Please ensure you allow extra nights
to enjoy time on the beach.
