AA short safari for the wildlife enthusiast exploring Kenya’s more intriguing parks, Samburu and Nakuru, in search of the prolific animal and bird life.

Day 1 - 2, Samburu Game Reserve
From Nairobi, we travel north to the arid lowlands around the foothills of Mt. Kenya, and reach the Samburu Game Reserve and spend two nights at a lodge within the park. The wildlife is concentrated around the permanent source of water in this area – the Ewaso Ngiro or Uaso Ngiro River. The desolate and sandy landscape is the preferred habitat for some mammals well-adapted to the harsh environment including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the gerenuk, an unusual antelope that spends much of its time on its hind legs reaching up to eat in the bushes.

Day 3, Lake Nakuru National Park
Leaving early this morning we travel through the Great Rift Valley to the beautiful Lake Nakuru, the habitat of lion, warthog, and giraffe and an important sanctuary for black and white rhino. The shallow soda lake is particularly known for its wealth of birdlife, where flamingos gather in their thousands, feeding on the algae that grow in the alkaline waters, weaving a strikingly pink ‘fringe’ around the lakeshore. If we are really lucky we may perhaps spot a leopard in a yellow Acacia tree or a pride of lion relaxing under a tree.

Day 4, Nairobi
After a final gaze over the game-filled savannahs, we head back to Nairobi where the tour ends.
