This
tour combines the well-known attraction of the Kruger and Hluhluwe
Game Reserves, with the recently initiated Transfrontier Peace Park,
Banhine / Zinave wilderness and Maputo Elephant Reserves in Mozambique.
Untouched wilderness areas, natural beauty, deserted beaches, and
unique cultural heritage, explored off the beaten track.
Day
1 - 3, Johannesburg, Greater Kruger National Park
From Johannesburg, we travel to the Kruger National Park and spend
the best part of two days exploring the park in the hope of glimpsing
Africa’s diverse wildlife on game drives. The Kruger is home
to over 500 species of birds and 137 mammals, including the Big
5 – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard.
Day 4 - 5, Mozambique Transfrontier Park
We travel to the Mozambique side of the Transfrontier Peace Park,
a virtually unexplored region by humans, where the bush is exceptional
for natural beauty and wildlife. The diversity of the flora ensures
some of the finest birding in Africa, and we spend two nights camping
in the wilderness, exploring both on foot and by vehicle.
Day 6 - 7, Banhine / Zinave wilderness region
Leaving the Transfrontier Park, we make our way across the Limpopo
River and into the heart of the Banhine / Zinave wilderness region
where we will spend two nights wild bush camping.
Day
8, Vilanculos
Leaving the wilderness behind, we head to Vilanculos on the shores
of the warm azure Indian Ocean, overlooking the idyllic Bazaruto
Archipelago. We spend one night here to relax, snorkel, and soak
up the sun whilst enjoying the deserted coconut palm lined beaches
that Mozambique is so well known for.
Day 9 – 11, Inhambane
Our next stop is the ancient trading port of Inhambane, where you
can enjoy a trip across the bay on a traditional Dhow and relaxation
at our camp under the coconut palms on the beach.
Day
12, Chidenguele
Spend the next night at the pristine resort of Chidenguele, situated
on a sand dune, surrounded by thick coastal forest and large freshwater
lakes. The deserted sandy beach is a great place for an isolated
walk to the deserted lighthouse that can be climbed for a stunning
view of the surrounding area.
Day
13, Maputo
Enjoy a night in a hotel in Mozambique’s capital, Maputo,
where the Portuguese influence is evident in the grandiose architecture
and tree lined streets. Tonight we will eat in a local restaurant
and sample some of the local seafood that Maputo is renowned for.
Day
14, Elephant Reserve
Today’s adventure begins with a ferry ride across the Maputo
Bay to Catembe, and on to the Elephant reserve where we explore
the coastal flood plains and surrounding forests in search of these
larger than usual African elephants.
Day
15 - 16, Zululand
Returning to South Africa, we enter Zululand and will spend two
nights at a rustic camp situated in the sand forest on a private
reserve near Hluhluwe. During our stay we will hike through the
forest along the banks of Lake St Lucia and enjoy an open vehicle
game drive in Hluhluwe Game Reserve, best known for its large populations
of rhino.
Day
17, Johannesberg
Our journey today takes us through the heart of Kwazulu –
Natal, and we will pass many rural Zulu villages and some spectacular
scenery en-route back to Johannesburg, where we arrive in the late
afternoon.
