DAYS 1 - 7
Nairobi, Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater
From Nairobi we cross the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Our camp gives us easy access to the park for gamedrives for our two days in Kenya’s premier wildlife park. We return briefly to Nairobi before crossing into Tanzania to Arusha. We meet the local Maasai and have opportunity to browse the markets before transferring to 4x4s for our excursion to the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and Ngorongoro Crater.
DAYS 8 - 14
Zanzibar, Lake Malawi
We pass Mt. Kilimanjaro en route to Dar es Salaam and the Indian Ocean and cross by ferry to Zanzibar for three days on this magical island. Explore Stone Town’s alleyways and markets but leave time for the beach: swaying palms and clear tropical waters. Returning to the mainland, we drive via Mikumi to Malawi.
NB Basic shared accommodation is included on Zanzibar however meals will be for your own account allowing you to experience some of the many different options available on Zanzibar. Please refer to the tour dossier (available below) for more information.
DAYS 15 - 21
Lake Malawi, Zambia, Lusaka
Malawi’s main attraction is the enormous Lake Malawi. This is Africa’s third-largest lake and it is ideal for swimming with some delightful beaches. We camp along the lake-shore and have opportunity to try diving, snorkelling, sailing or else visit a local village. We leave Malawi and cross into Zambia and drive to Lusaka.
DAYS 22 - 24
Livingstone, Victoria Falls
We continue to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls area. In addition to its awesome beauty the area is known as Africa’s ‘adventure’ capital: try rafting, scenic flights, canoeing or bungy (to name a few). Alternatively, relax and enjoy the beauty of the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls area.
DAYS 25 - 32
Matopos, Hwange, Great Zimbabwe
We cross into Zimbabwe to Hwange National Park, once the hunting grounds of the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi. We visit a nearby wild dog project and game drive in an adjacent game concession area, searching for nocturnal wildlife including the elusive leopard. We continue to Bulawayo and Matopos National Park. The Matobo Hills contain Bushman paintings some of which are believed to be over 4000 years old; the park also offers the opportunity to search on foot for rhino – a true African experience. We continue to Great Zimbabwe, one of the most important archaeological sites in southern Africa, dating from 1200 AD when an indigenous population of over 10000 people traded with nations as distant as China and Persia. We continue to Gweru and the Antelope Park Private Reserve. Various (optional) activities are available here including game drives and walks, and there is the opportunity to ‘Walk with Lions’. The following day we return to Victoria Falls and Livingstone where arrangements end.
