Exciting game drives next to Hwange National Park Wild Dog encounters at a conservation project Game walking in the Zambezi National Park Visit the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls Sunset cruise on the Zambezi River
Day 1 Hwange National Park Private Game Concession
On arrival in Victoria Falls you are transferred through Teak and Mopani woodlands, past traditional villages to your Private Game Lodge, located on the edge of Hwange National Park. The afternoon is free to relax and settle in. Chill by the pool or sit quietly by the waterhole. Here we hope to spot wildlife as they come to drink after a long hot day.
Day 2 Hwange National Park Private Game Concession, Painted Dog Project
Rising early, you will take a morning game drive. There are no fences between the concession areas and Hwange National Park, animals move freely between the two. This is Big 5 country and you will go in search of them all, along with numerous other species of large mammals. Before returning to the lodge a visit will also be made to the local Painted Dog Project. These endangered animals are in constant threat from disease and conflict for habitat. Our fascinating visit includes a guide tour of the project to find out about the efforts that are being made to protect them and the success stories so far. This afternoon/evening we have the opportunity to take another game drive in the game concession area adjacent to the National Park. The drive will continue after sunset by spotlight and here we will search for a variety of nocturnal animals including the ever elusive Leopard.
Day 3 Victoria Falls, Morning game drive and afternoon game walk
Today you will return to Victoria Falls, but not before a final game drive to find any animals you have not already spotted. Upon arrival back in the Falls, you will have time to settle into your hotel. This afternoon you will join professional guides for a fascinating game walk in the Zambezi National Park which is located along the banks of the river, just up stream from the Victoria Falls. You will be following natural game trails and checking out of the way watering holes for any sights or signs of the resident wildlife.
Day 4 Victoria Falls, free time and afternoon sunset river cruise
Today is at your leisure. Explore the curio markets and the many fine restaurants and cafes in the town, or enjoy some of the many optional activities on offer. Victoria Falls is justifiably known as the adrenaline sports capital of Africa and the options are almost limitless. The best way to appreciate the full magnificence of the Falls is to take a flight right over them – aptly called the Flight of the Angels. Or there is grade 5 white water rafting on the River Zambezi, the 111 metre high bungee jump from the iron road/rail bridge below the Falls, horse-riding in the Zambezi National Park and canoeing on the Zambezi. Alternatively you can simply enjoy a few cold beers in the elegant colonial surroundings of the Victoria Falls Hotel. The choice is yours. To end your day, you will take an afternoon sunset cruise on the Upper Zambezi.
Day 5 Victoria Falls National Park.
This morning we visit Victoria Falls National Park and take walks to the many lookout points from which you can see Africa’s greatest natural spectacle. At over a mile wide and 100m deep it forms the largest curtain of falling water in the world and its spray can be seen for miles around during high waters in April and May. Our tour finishes on return to our lodge and a transfer to the airport for onward travel
