Egypt is a populous country in North Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula forming a land bridge to southwest Asia. It’s bordered by the Mediterranean to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west. The majority of the some 80 million people live near the banks of the River Nile in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers, where the only fertile land is found. Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization, and is much celebrated for its famous monuments such as the impressive Great Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, the magnificent well-preserved temples like Karnak and Abu Simbal and in the Valley of the Kings and Queens.
