This short tour visits Kenya’s greatest game reserve. It is the location of one of the world’s greatest movement of large animals – the annual migration when hundreds of thousands of hoofed animals follow the rains across the plains in search of new pastures. But at all times of the year, the reserve offers rewarding safaris and is home to the ‘Big 5’ and many other equally interesting animals and birds.
Day 1 Great Rift Valley, Masai Mara National Reserve
Leaving Nairobi we cross the scenic Great Rift Valley and travel to the Masai heartlands, arriving in time for lunch. This afternoon we embark on our first game drive in search of wildlife. The Masai Mara is home to Kenya’s finest wildlife reserve, with abundant game and gentle rolling grasslands that ensure the animals are never far from sight.
Day 2 Masai Mara National Reserve
We explore the park on game drives to witness the vast numbers of plains game and associated predators. The ‘Mara’ is home to herds of elephant, buffalo, wildebeest and zebra as well as cats including lion and cheetah. This land is home to the annual migration, when millions of wildebeest, zebra and antelope traverse the landscape to feed on the lush new grass and give birth – one of the greatest wildlife shows on earth. The region is also shared by the red-robed Masai; a proud semi-nomadic cattle-rearing people that we will encounter on safari.
Day 3 Masai Mara, Nairobi
Today we head back to Nairobi arriving early in the afternoon, when the tour ends.
